MG TA 1938
Complete very original car bought by me in 1973 as part restored car. Original engine with matching numbers. Dismantled again in 1975 for more comprehensive but still unfinished restoration.
New wood frame with alloy panelling by Bevan. Major steel components blasted and stoved or synthetic coated. Most parts rechromed (Murrivan). Instruments overhauled. Good rust free wings, tank and centre laced wheels. Seats retrimmed in vinyl leathercloth. Engine and gearbox untouched. Many new parts inc. wiring loom, halfshafts, springs, pistons, wheel and diff bearings, and also many used spares.
Much of the hard work is done and now requires engine overhaul, reassembly and painting to produce an excellent car. With cash deposits earning little interest now , this could be an ideal project to add value to your cash.

1953 MG TD Mark 2 – rare factory Stage 2 specification model Nigh on unique opportunity – current owner 50 years! Original RHD UK car – one of just 51 UK TD Mark 2s Professionally restored by MG specialist in 2003 Arguably the most practical and best specification T type of them all This car is beautifully finished in MG red with red leather interior and beige wet weather equipment and comes complete with spares and an impressive collection of documentation accumulated over the last 50 years ownership. Try and find another like this! £24,750 The TD Mark 2 is a rare factory produced stage 2 tuning model with greater power and stability than a ‘normal’ TD. We are very tempted to keep this car for ourselves, but reluctantly we must find a new home for the current owner’s “old friend”, this delightful 1953 MG TD Mark 2... Owned since 1957 it comes with an impressive collection of documentation accumulated over the last 50 years of ownership; to include copy of the original V5, (showing just first and present owner), various intermediate older style V5s, selection of MOT test certificates, tax discs, original operation manual, copies of contemporary and modern road-tests, articles with tips on maintenance, as well as receipts, including the 2003 restoration. There are also some photos from the 1960’s to the present day and a number of useful supporting books and parts catalogues going back over many years, all helping to build up a picture of the last 50 years continuous history. In addition there is an assortment of spares to include spare wheel, box of engine and chassis parts, e.g. ball races, body rubbers, hub caps, Lucas spot and fog and other electrical parts. Responding to demands for more power and better handling, the TD Mk II offered 5.5% more power than a standard car and has enhanced suspension with Andrex friction dampers at each wheel, thereby supplementing the Luvax Girling dampers. This gives the Mark 2 far better cornering over the standard TD. The compression ratio of 8.1:1 plays 7.25:1 of the standard car and the cylinder head has larger valves with heavier springs fed by bigger twin SU H4 1.5” carburettors, mounted to a modified inlet manifold. Fuel supply is via twin SU pumps. The Mark 2 also had a ‘faster’ rear axle ratio and, latterly in the production run, the model got a different distributor which altered the advance curve to better suit the higher compression ratio. Being a late car this TD Mark 2 enjoys all these improvements over the standard TD. 29,664 TDs were made between 1949 and 1953, of which just 1,710 were TD Mark 2s. Of those, 51 were sold in the UK and most of the rest were LHD and sold in North America. A surviving RHD UK car is therefore something of a rarity. This car was the subject of a full (£17,000) restoration in 2003 by a marque specialist and is in excellent order throughout. Unmarked coachwork, wet weather equipment and trim, lightly patinated leather seats and some chrome combine to make this a thoroughly charming car. Excellent door fit, oil pressure and road manners give an easy sense of a well sorted car. The only immediately obvious non standard items are the pancake air filters. However the original air filter assembly is included too. There can be few examples of the TD Mark 2 as desirable as this one, when taking into account the overall condition and provenance, fewer still built original RHD. Hurry, they really don’t come up very often like this! £24,750 Viewings are invited when you will have the chance to speak with the engineer who prepared the car. Viewings Viewings are by appointment, and are a relaxed affair, where you can take the time to decide whether the car is right for you. A full record of the work undertaken in preparing the car for sale is available to you, together with the known history of the vehicle. We are a small family business based just outside Bodmin in Cornwall, very close to the A30/A38 cross-over. We are very pleased to meet prospective purchasers from trains arriving at Bodmin Parkway Railway Station (London-Paddington to Penzance line) and from flights arriving at Newquay Airport (flights from many UK airports). Please call 0845 458 1108 (local rate) and speak with either Rob or Martin or send us a contact us form. |

MG TA 'SPECIAL' FOR SALE Now for something completely different! 1938 TA for sale, created as a trials style special with modifications to strengthen the usual weaker bits on a standard T Type. Restored about four years ago the specification is as follows: TA chassis with 1250 XPAG engine, mounted to Ford 5 speed gearbox. Purpose made prop shaft mated to B series back axle, with MG Z type diff. Ford 100e rack & pinion steering box. Finned front brake drums, original TA sliding trunnion suspension with more modern shock absorbers. New body finished in very smart dark blue, with period bucket seats also finished in matching blue. Cycle wings with spats and modified TF style bonnet for easier access. Twin spare wheel carrier and aeroscreens for that period trials look, but with no roof/ side screens. Full MOT and tax, and believed to have covered only approx 2500 miles since rebuild. The only visible difference from a standard car is the dash which has MGB speedo and rev counter, but traditional T Type centre panel and dials. The engine/ gearbox/ diff combination make it very easy to drive in modern traffic, the Ford steering with rose jointed unions eradicate the usual T Type wanderings, yet the look is pure period. The best of both worlds maybe? Also very competitive in grass roots motor sport, has been used in local pcts, classic trials and gymkhanas with some success. Well known car in the South West, and very reluctantly for sale due to change of circumstances, and to help fund the restoration of my other TA. Very hard to value with its modifications, but looking to haggle around £10k for a pre war car with excellent body, reliable engine and great character! 1946 MG TC for sale. Supplied new by University Motors, London in 1946. This car still retains a huge amount of its originality even after a restoration in the late 80s. All the original running gear is still on the car, and she runs fine. She has period extras of oil temp and water temp gauges, also alloy rocker cover, cam plate. Rear boot rack is also fitted. Recently had amber indicators fitted. The history is incredible, and an important part of this car. Sadly, she is for sale because the current owner is in far worse condition and having difficulty driving her. So she will have to go to a good home. The car has her original registration number which is very valuable. A lovely unmolested example that retains a wonderful used patina that cannot be replicated. £16950 UK Pounds. MG TC 1947 This lovely TC has had a body off rebuild to superb standards a short while ago and has been maintained by us since. Unlike most TCs that have had many thousands of pounds spent on them, this one has not been stored but used, as it should be. The car is in gorgeous condition in red with tan leather interior and double duck weather equipment including tonneau. I don’t think the side screens have ever been used. The engine has the large sump and has been rebuilt to an uprated specification with unleaded head and the rear main doesn’t leak! I t has a stainless exhaust and a very effective VW steering conversion. It has excellent chrome, including a period luggage rack and the correct spot lamp. The car has excellent performance and stopping power and coupled with superb steering makes it a highly presentable and instantly usable TC. Not to be confused with ‘iffy’ rebuilds, this one has cost many thousands of pounds and has been professionally completed to an exceptional standard. TCs in this condition are fast appreciating at present and this one offers exceptional value, with a new MOT at £22.500.00. Please ring me on 07855768830 any time. (Trade advert). |

"1951 TD. This much loved MG was treated to a full ""nut & bolt"" restoration in 1992/1993 using a new body tub and finished in Old English White and Waxoyled. The UK Market, right-hand drive chassis was shot-blasted, etch primed and painted in gloss black with new suspension bushes, shock absorbers and cadmium plated fittings. A new brake master cylinder was installed with stainless steel flexible hoses and new copper brake pipes. The 1250cc engine was rebuilt to Works Stage II specification, fully balanced and lightened with a new 3 piece clutch. Twin 1½"" carbs with heat shield and special 4-branch exhaust manifold are present, along with twin fuel pumps and twin copper fuel lines. At a later date a new Crane ""fast road"" camshaft was fitted, along with a higher ratio back axle for more relaxed cruising. The wood rimmed Moto-Lita wheel and twin ""Brooklands"" aero screens complete the ""look"". All brightwork was replaced and rechromed where necessary and original Lucas Fog and Spot Lamps are mounted on a chromed badge bar. A chrome plated luggage rack was also fitted. A period type battery and new cloth-covered wiring loom are used, along with separate rear amber indicators and twin-bulb front sidelight/indicators from S.V.C. The car sits well on silver painted, shotblasted wire wheels with five new radials fitted only about 500 miles ago. For Sale 1936 MG TA. This car was for sale before Christams but was removed so that work could be completed on it. This car is on the original plate but has the later XPAG engine (1939). The car has been well looked after and subject of a very expensive rebuild at some time in the past. It has weathered well and still looks great but it is not concours, its in very, very good if not excellent usable condition. Last November it was subject of an £1100 plus mechancical overhaul on carb kits and set up etc. There are papers back to the late 70's where it had an engine overbore and rebuild throughout. The engine pulls very well, sounds great and starts everytime. It has just had a new master cylinder, wheel kits and hoses and proper bleed nipples to the brake system. The interior is very good, the main dash clocks were overhauled last year. The body work shows only minor signs of wear, a bit of micro blister here and there but on the whole it just looks the part. The tyres and tubes are brand new having been for MOT and back, the wheels have just come back from blasting and have been powder coated. It has just passed its MOT and has a year's free tax. I have bought rear wheel bearings, seals and gaskets which will either be fitted to the car or come with it along with a few other spares.. The hood and side screens are all very good with no damage there is a half and full tonnoeu covers. Please feel free to ask any questions. 01209 820833 or stephen.lenney(at)btinternet.com (replace at by @) Marigold is for sale through no fault of her own. Offers on £15250. Her brother 'Rupert' the MGA will also be going for sale having finished a 31/2 year rebuild. |

In 2000 a completely new aluminium skinned ash framed body was fitted to the car with cycle wings to the front and 16 inch rebuilt wheels. New petrol tank and front valence. 1936 MG TA Midget Ch. No.1001 Reg. No. ARX 301 We purchased the car in September 2002 with a suspected crack in the cylinder head. However, it was the block that it was cracked by the core plug behind the exhaust manifold. My plan was to refurbish the car to a high standard but a rash promise to my older daughter to have it ready and running for her wedding day meant that I had to have it fitted with a professionally overhauled and installed XPAG engine and Sierra 5-speed box as an interim solution. My intention then was to sell this complete drive package on when I had completed the refurbishment with the repaired original engine and drive train. Known History I understand that the car, which is mainly original, was re-imported from the USA circa end of 1979, where it is understood to have spent 20+ years in a museum. As far as I know it has three British owners (including myself) since that time. Beyond that I have no history but the MGCC and the Octagon Club may be able to help. I do not think the car has been rebuilt. The car has always passed its MOT’s first time while we have owned it and has a current ‘computer’ style certificate. Body This appears to be original but a former owner modified the bulkhead to take a 12v battery (a la TC) and modified the tool box as well. This could be rectified as there is no major damage to the bulkhead. There are some original tools. The paint finish is not thought to be original. The rear off-side wing requires modification as is not the original ‘narrow‘ design.. There is no evidence of serious corrosion but there is some cosmetic rust on the nose of the front mudguards and some paint has flaked on the bonnet panels around the louvres and hinges but the metal is sound The ash frame, which is thought to be original, has not been fully inspected but there is a doubt about the passenger door hinge body mountings. However, both doors shut cleanly without scuffing the body. There is a little movement at the offside windscreen mounting. The seat cushions and squab have been recently re-upholstered in black leather. The door panels and carpets are in a good condition. The hood, full tonneau and hood cover have recently been renewed. The side curtains have not been re-covered. The wooden dash facia has been renewed. The aero screens have been removed but are included in the sale. Electrics All items are working and flashing direction indicators have been incorporated into the front sidelights and rear lights. A new main wiring loom is included in the sale. Engine XPAG installation This is a professional installation, about 500 miles old, using a professionally rebuilt engine with new or rebuilt accessories including an unleaded head. At present the engine is raised at the front so that the generator aligns with the bulge in the bonnet side. (The starting handle will not engage with the crankcase dog.) The clutch and Sierra 5 speed gearbox have been professionally rebuilt. Chassis This rides well and has been refurbished. It is fitted with TC type shock dampers and the rear axle oil seals were replaced when the XPAG engine was installed. The wheels were overhauled just before I bought it and are fitted with good tyres (one new). Original Drive Train This includes a complete MPJG engine (No.3250 is not the original unit), clutch, gearbox and prop shaft but new gearbox mountings are required. All manifolds, exhaust system, TA radiator and dynamo etc are included in the sale. The block is cracked between the core plug holes behind the exhaust manifold which is just visible on a photograph. I have been advised that the crack can be repaired without too much trouble. This description has been prepared in good faith to aid an initial assessment. FOR SALE . 1939 MG T A Tickford. This well known car is only for sale due to the owner’s failing health, It was substantially rebuilt by the previous owner, Ian Lloyd, and purchased by me as an unfinished project . To complete the rebuild, I had to finish the interior trim, and carry out a complete engine rebuild, having the cylinder head unleaded etc., and the bottom end re-white metalled. The car has been fitted with a MG VA engine of 1550c and gearbox., giving the car an easy 60/65 mph cruising speed .The interior is trimmed with Blue Leather and all the woodwork has been refinished, and all chrome plating redone. I have owned the car for the past 6years and covered only 6300 miles. I have most of the bills covering the rebuild. The price I am asking is £29500, but is negotiable to T Register members. Please Phone 01227 750520 ( Canterbury ) for further details or e-mail sawrod@tiscal.co.uk Rod Sawyer. |

FOR SALE MG TA 1938 Almost completed TA which has been many years in the restoration process. Just needs a little bit of work on the interior – (new red leather seats and squab have been fitted) – fitting of door linings (which are finished complete with pockets), fitting of hood and running up. Wiring has been 90% completed. New batteries required. It was never my intention to build a concours car but to have a decent reliable model which looked its age. I am pretty sure all parts to finish are included. Have old log book and it is on the Swansea register with the new log sheet as well. Sadly advancing years dictate that I will never finish this project started so long ago. Can be viewed in Lincolnshire. Reasonable price of about &8,000 Telephone 01507 588224 and ask for Ron |

TD 27508 (originally registered on 8th May 1953) is reluctantly for sale. It has the interesting registration number RAF 468 which is on the new V5C registration certificate. The car had been dismantled and the chassis and brakes had been overhauled by the previous owner but arthritis prevented him from completing the car. Sadly, history has repeated itself and I am unable to complete the rebuild. All the parts are with the car and in addition there are a number of spares over and above the disassembled whole. Some quite rare, including a brand new Lucas armature for the dynamo with extended spindle for the rev counter drive. The original green log book and various papers from the history trail come with the car, which is offered for sale at £6,000. Telephone number 01438 226359 (Stevenage, Hertfordshire) if you are interested. |
