Searching The Register

The Search Form allows you to search the on-line Register of T Types known to us.

The Register is keyed on chassis number, and this should be your prime search criterion. While it is possible to search on other criteria, this may not find a match even if the car is known to the Register for a variety of reasons.

The Chassis number is almost always of the form Txnnnn where x is A, B, C, D or F as appropriate and nnnn is the 4 or 5-digit chassis number stamped on the front dumb-iron, entered without spaces. Always enter the full 4 or 5 digit chassis number (with a leading 0 if necessary) as the search is always for an exact match. Note that the TF can have a Car Number rather than the chassis number stamped on the chassis plate riveted to the bulkhead – but the car is still registered under the chassis number stamped on the dumb iron. There are a few TD chassis with numbers of the form TD/Cnnn. They should be entered in that form.

The License number is matched exactly as entered (including any spaces and punctuation) only if the associated box is checked. A match will not be found if the License number is held in a form different from that entered in the search box. If the box is not checked, a fuzzy search is carried out, with a list of similar license numbers displayed.

Only basic car details are displayed on a successful search to conform to Data Protection legislation. If you would like more information on a car, you can send a request to the appropriate Registrar who will check with the current owner before contacting you.

Depending on the results of the search you can update details of a car known to you or provide details of a car not known to the Register.

All updates to and information on car details provided on-line are checked manually by the appropriate Registrar before being uploaded to the on-line database. This can take some time so it may be days before any changes appear online. The Registrar may want to contact you to verify information provided so it is important that you give a reliable email address
